I want to constantly expand my vocabulary. I think being well spoken is the most important thing in the world. I love coming across new words that I don’t know and learning how to use them. I just don’t ever want to sound like I don’t know what I’m talking about.
We teach girls to shrink themselves; to make themselves smaller. We say to girls, “You can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, but not too successful, otherwise you will threaten the man.” Because I am female I am expected to aspire to marriage. I am expected to make my life choices always keeping in mind that marriage is the most important. Now, marriage can be a source of joy and love and mutual support, but why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage and we don’t teach boys the same? We raise girls to see each other as competitors; not for jobs or for accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing, but for the attention of men. We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings in the way that boys are.
Feminist: A person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
Why do people put down the women who are a size 0 or an XS now? You can still be that small and be healthy. Making fun of a smaller woman is just as bad as making fun of a bigger woman. No matter what size you are, no one has the right to tell you what the right or wrong size to be is. There is no right or wrong size. Everyone is different. You will never find two girls exactly alike; not even identical twins.
I’m a size 0 and I am confident. My best friend is a size 5 and she is confident. We are both beautiful in different ways. Let’s not try to rip anyone apart. Small, medium, or large, there is room in the spotlight for all of us.
